and Gayan reign supremeBy M. Shamil Amit
A scintillating piece of driving and riding by Aravinda Premadasa
and Gayan Sandaruwan kept the massive crowds on their toes to see
them emerge the kings of speed handling at the Foxhill Supercross
              concluded at Diyatalawa last Sunday.
 Aravinda
in his Mitsubishi Evo VII who was winning the championship title
for the sixth year and Gayan in his Honda CRF250 for the third year
gave the motor racing fans their money’s worth. The former
dominated the first of the SL-GT Cars upto 3500cc event to win the
race and then secured a second place in the second race of the same
category to clinch the top drivers award while the latter who took
part in four events secured the first position in three and was
unfortunate to lose out the other due to a nasty fall. Aravinda’s
arch rival Dinesh Deheragoda in his powerful Mitsubishi Evo IX who
could not secure a place in the first race of the SL-GT event as
he had to give up the race at the latter stages made a comeback
to win the second race. In the other events that were worked off
Dinesh Jayawardena in his DHL Special with his cool headed driving
won both the SL-H Cars upto 1600cc likewise Shantha Suraweera in
his Subaru Legacy and Sajaad Zuhair driving a Ford Laser clinched
              both the SL-N Cars upto 8-10 and 10-12 Kg/Hp and SL-N Ford Laser/Mazda
              upto 1500cc events respectively. The
kids too had an opportunity to show their skills and one rider who
made an impression was young Ishan Dasanayake riding a Yamaha YZ80
who won both the events of the Group MX Motorcycles upto 85cc. In
the other motor car events Rizvi Farook and Dilan Seneviratne shared
a race each of the SL-A Cars upto 1600cc. |
