A 26-year-old man who had used the public toilet at Colombo’s
Unity Plaza Complex in Bambalapitiya, had his foot stuck in the
commode for several hours yesterday until rescued by the Fire Brigade.
The
man had attended to certain personal matters and visited the toilet.
Somehow his leg had got stuck in the commode and he began crying
for help. Hours later a person forced open the door to help, failing
which he called the Fire Brigade. Firemen broke the commode to release
the man’s foot.
The
young man was sent on a stretcher to the Colombo General Hospital
where his foot is being treated. He has suffered a sever cut and
is to undergo surgery. The man told hospital staff that he slipped
and got his foot stuck in the commode.
He is believed to have squat on the commode. “It was indeed
a rare incident,” a Fire Brigade spokesperson told The Sunday
Times last night.
