By Bernie Wijesekera
Legendary Sir Richard Hadlee, who has many firsts as a bowling allrounder
for New Zealand was here on a fact-finding mission. He arrived in
Sri Lanka just before the New Zealand ‘A’ left after
a successful visit.
Hadlee, a good friend of former Sri Lanka “workhorse’
Tony Opatha foundtime to visit Fingara International Cricket Academy.
He was quite pleased with the facilities afforded to the young prospects.
Opatha said that the FICA management had discussions with Sir Richard
to serve as a consultant coach. He has agreed to come here for two
months. Opatha says it’s a big boost to further uplift the
image of the academy and help Sri Lanka cricket. The lads have much
to learn from him.
To
face the moving ball where Sri Lankans are vulnerable especially
when playing away from home. According to Tony, Hadlee loves to
help Sri Lanka cricket progress. He is due shortly. The FICA’s
vision is to promote and develop cricket at grassroots level.
