Witnessing talent
By Ishani Ranasinghe
As days go by, the finals for one of Interact’s most looked forward to events are drawing near. Talent Search is a forum where all Interactors and non-Interactors island-wide participate and display their talent that is yet to be discovered. One part of this competition came to an end last week with the Kandy semi finals being completed.

Organised by the Interact club of Royal College as an annual project Talent Search each year holds two semi finals (Kandy and Galle) before the finals which manages to draw in a huge crowd and the tickets being sold out hours after they are put out. With the Kandy semi finals being held last week at the Trinity College Hall, the organisers gave us a little bit of an insight into what happened there.

Opting to have one of their semi finals outside Colombo have undoubtedly given more opportunities to youngsters and this has been quite evident with the number of participants increasing every year. “The number of schools which took part has also increased this year,” says Gabrielle Rockwood adding that overall the participation was way more than they expected. This makes it evident that Talent Search is growing popular each year reflecting on their success of the past years.

Having successfully concluded one stage of the semi finals the organisers are thankful to the Interact Club of Trinity College for all the support that was given to them, “and also to Pepsi for providing refreshments for the participants.

Overall the semi finals have achieved what they hoped for… a wide variety of talent being showcased and an opportunity given for many youngsters to participate. Now what’s left are the Colombo semi finals of Talent Search where once again I am sure an immense amount of talented young people will come together. Once the two semi finals are concluded the participants who scored the highest points of each category in the semi final will qualify for the finals.

The semi finalists will come together on November 2 at the BMICH, and those of you who make your way can witness some fantastic talent on display as the finalist of Talent Search 2005 take the stage. The principal sponsor for the event is Pepsi while MBC and MTV are electronic media sponsors and The Sunday Times is the print media sponsor for the event.
