By S.R. Pathiravithana
After a lapse of three years, the Lankan under 18 strikers will
make an overseas tour to take part in the Bangladesh Invitation
International Tournament which will take place from 4 to 19th August
in Dacca.
The last occasion that a Sri Lanka under 18 team made a tour was
in the year 2002 to take part in the Youth Asia Cup held in Punjab
India.
According to Anuruddha Herath Bandara -- the secretary of the Sri
Lanka Schools Hockey Federation the selections for the tour will
be made July 2, 3 and 9 and 10 at the Matale Nandimitra Ekanayake
Astro Turf.
Bandara said “From the talent that we have seen in the schools
arena this year we feel that we can form a very good team in this
age group if the real talent is harnessed. The selections will be
made from those who were born on or after 1.1.1987.”
Each
school will be eligible to send up to seven players for selections
and it should come through the respective principals. Those who
turn up for practices should posses the original copy of their birth
certificate and the Postal Identity card/Identity card provided
by the Sri Lanka Sports Council/Pass Port.
The
Schools’ Hockey secretary further said “The Schools
federation along with the Matale Schools Committee has made arrangements
to provide accommodation to those aspiring participants. We at the
SLSHA will do all the spade work and hand over the matter of selections
to the national selectors who will finally pick a squad of 18 players.
The Invitation is also opened for a manager, assistant manager,
coach and assistant coach”. |
