Rare weapon used in killing
By Asif Fuard
A man who is alleged to have links to a notorious underworld figure had been shot dead on a lonely road in Kotahena on Friday evening by an unidentified gunman who has used a rare kind of weapon for the killing.

Anthony Dominic had been shot three times, at around 5 p.m. at College Road, Kotahena, when he had been travelling in his Nissan Sunny car which had tinted glasses.

No one knows where Anthony was going since he was travelling alone wearing a sarong and a T-shirt and listening to Tamil music on his car radio when he had been shot at point blank range. The bullets had gone through the side window of the car and hit his arm and neck killing him on the spot.

Anthony is a businessman in the Modera fish market. He was known to have had some other business as well but he had no criminal record. Anthony is married and has an eight-year-old son who attends St. Benedict's College. He has one brother and three sisters.

Fifteen minutes after the incident the Kotahena police had received a call from a man who said he was Liyanage informing them about the incident. Anthony's younger brother Anibet Evon told The Sunday Times that his brother had no enemies, as he was a very friendly person.

" I cannot say who could have done this because he was a very peaceful businessman. He use to help our parents financially. He was not on the best of terms with me because I had married someone the family did not like. We used to meet on and off at our parent's place," he said.

OIC Kotahena police L.B Appuhamy told The Sunday Times that so far no suspects have been arrested since no eyewitness has come forward to give evidence.

" The victim was shot by a weapon which could be a 7.62 mm hand gun which is a rare kind of weapon not usually available in Sri Lanka. We hope to question the people in the area but so far we have not found any clues. There is speculation that Anthony was connected to a notorious underworld kingpin and drug lord called Kimbulawela Guna who is at present hiding abroad after being involved in several killings and robberies. We hope to get the assistance of the Colombo Crimes Division," Inspector Appuhamy said.

Anthony's family members are expected to be present at the Hulftsdorf Magistrate Courts on Monday when the case will be taken up.
