‘Dangayanta Pamanai’: For mischivous only

Dangayanta Pamanai (For mischief makers only) a miniplay woven around a child’s mischievous behaviour targets a child audience from ages 6 to 90. Directed by Laxman Wijesekara to a script of Chamika Hatlahawatta the teledrama, stars Jayanath Bandara, Priyanka Samaraweera, Irangani Serasighe, Chandra Kaluarachchi, Gihan Fernando.

Udayanthi Wjesundra, Tissa Wijesurendara, Susila Kottage, Nayana Hettiarachchi and child actors Thushara Chamikara, Diluka Karunatilake and Isuri Navodya.

“Tikiri” the only child of working parents is a little bundle of mischief. His parents has hopes for his progress in a society that is success oriented. Tikiri is a grade three student in a public school in the city.At first Tikiri studied at a village school and his parents prepare a false address seeking him to enroll him in a city school. Tikiri who likes his village school tells the truth to the principal about his parent’s plan. He gets scolded by his parents. As no one expected the principal decides to take Tikiri to his school and this was due to Tikiri’s honest words of wisdom...

Tikiri has an “Amma” who takes him to school and back taking care of him during the interval as well. No “Amma” can survive in Tikiri’s service for more than three months, due to his mischievous ways. His parents have a trying time looking for “Amma”s for Tikiri.

However Tikiri is soon disillusioned with the school in the city. It is because of the distance, due to his inability to meet his village friends and also because city schools are very large. Tikiri keeps on behaving mischievously as a result.

His mischievous behaviour causes trouble for all and this results in his family circle and friends becoming disgusted with him. Tikiri is very sad about this. Even if Tikiri tries to help someone, it becomes a nuisance to that person. Tikiri becomes lonely as no one seeks to keep company with him.

Living in a world of his own, Tikiri, lives on his fantasies. In that dream world he comes across many mischievous characters fairies, Snow White, Cinderella, Jack, Superman etc,. Tikiri is now a hero to his friends in the dream world.

Tikiri comes across, talking trees, singing bushes, rivers of sugar, chocolate houses. Tikiri makes friends with all these. He talks with them. He tells these things to his schoolmates and parents. But no one believes him. In the meantime, Tikiri acquires the gift to talk to objects in his environment, the wind, the river and the leaves.

They make friends with him, because he is quite sensitive to the environment, he acquires knowledge and an instinctive awareness about everything. But he has no one “with whom he can share these experiences. Sandamali a girl friend from his school who listen to his adventures becomes a good friend.

Sandamali persuades Tikiri to behave well while showing him many interesting places in the school. In return Tikiri tells her stories about his dream world. He teaches Sandamali how to speak with the environment and Sandamali takes Tikiri to visit her family. Seeing Sandamali’s grandmother, Tikiri is reminded of the kind grandmother in the chocolate house in the dream world. Both look alike.

Later on Tikiri realizes that there are many people in the real world, who are similar to those in the dream world. Sandamali shows many things to Tikiri. Both of them learn from the grandmother the stories of those heroes who conquered the world, now Tikiri decides to become a hero. Teledrama is produced by Susila Production (Pvt) Ltd.
