The touch, the heat, the relief

"Western medicine merely subdues an illness providing temporary relief as it treats only the symptoms. Spiritual healing on the other hand, treats the root cause of the problem, thereby healing the entire body," says cosmic healer Siri Hewavitarana.

Gifted with the power of healing through cosmic energy, Mr. Hewavitarana also a trained ayurvedic physician claims to have healed over three lakhs of patients in Sri Lanka, India, Singapore and Britain. He is often called to hospitals where he has cured patients with heart ailments, cancer, asthma, migraine, ulcers in the stomach and those suffering from strokes.

Beginnings
How did it all begin? It was when he was about 13 years of age that he began to see energy rays emanating from leaves and human beings. His siblings refused to take him seriously, dismissing his visions as hallucinations. However, one particular incident that he still recalls, helped him come to terms with his gift.

"My father was relaxing on a chair and I was able to see clearly that one of his lungs was contracting while the other was not," he said. He went closer and suddenly felt his whole body getting heated. He raised his hands and placed them over his father's chest and actually saw rays passing from his hands into his father's chest.

Within a few minutes the lung that was not working began to contract. His father evidently had only one working lung and had kept his children in the dark about his condition for fear of upsetting them as their mother was dead. A subsequent medical check by their family physician revealed to his surprise that both lungs were in good condition.

"My life changed with that incident. I realised that I had special energy," says Mr. Hewavitarna talking of how he gradually took to meditation. During these sessions he felt energy flowing from his spine to the neck that enabled him to heal people instantaneously. "I energise myself from the cosmic energy and transfer this universal energy to patients to heal their diseases."

A gift of energy
Unlike Reiki, Mr. Hewavitarana does not have a master nor does he use pendants. "It is a gift I was born with and I have developed it,” he says talking about the seven chakras within the body that he opens, aligns and energises to balance the body. "Energy pours into my system from the seventh layer called the spiritual chakra. Apparently all people are not blessed with the energy and those blessed with it have to develop the skill.

Most patients who seek the healer's assistance are those who have sought other medical treatment that failed to bring results. It is often as the last resort that most of them turn to this non-traditional healing form, bringing with them all their diagnostic reports. "I don't see their reports or talk to them. I simply have them lie down on my healing bed and raise my hands over them."

"By just looking at them I can see all their organs and tell what ails them," Mr. Hewavitarana says adding that quite often his diagnosis varies from the reports that the patients come with. "Some say that they have cancer, but actually don't." Only for acute headache or swelling does he touch patients to allow his positive energy to work on the negative energy.

A member of the Federation of Spiritual Healers, London, Mr. Hewavitarana claims that he can heal at a distance when he is able to go out of his body while meditating and heal the patient who is in hospital.

Healing session
All he requires is 30 - 90 minutes for the healing process within which time a patient first feels heat, followed by cooling, relief from stress and finally sleep. Practising in Sri Lanka for the past nine years, Mr. Hewavitarana sees patients at an ashram at Malabe and his residence in Pitakotte.

"I see the defect and know what I should do," he says adding that his miraculous faith healing is harmless. He says his desire to heal and his compassion together with the time and energy he is willing to give have served to help him.

Is there any scientific basis to cosmic healing? "After extensive research, scientists have found that the Kirlian camera is able to reveal energy flow and aura colours from the human body," Mr. Hewavitarana says of the form of healing also known as Pranic healing that is now extensively used in Asia and other countries.

In the UK, cosmic energy healers are called to the health department to heal patients alongside the conventional medicine. However, "doctors in Sri Lanka are still sceptical and not open to it," he says.
