Glen Terry comes alive at Barefoot
The AQUA Heritage Trust will host its first live international music event in aid of the Sanasuma Coastal Village Re-Awakening Project with Colombo favourites Glen Terry and Friends on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 at the Barefoot Gallery & Garden Cafe.

Tickets are priced at Rs. 100/- and can be purchased at the Barefoot Gallery. He will be performing again at the Light House Hotel on March 12. In April, the AQUA Heritage Trust will hold three benefit shows with live music played by Swedish soul and blues trio, The Dogs.

All proceeds of this jazz gig will be channelled towards rehabilitating the environmentally-friendly catamaran and “visidal” fisheries of Sri Lanka’s tsunami-devastated southern east coast.

The AQUA Heritage Trust has been dedicated to restoring and preserving the ancient irrigation systems, marine life and fishing industries of Sri Lanka’s east coast since it was established in February 2003.

Through the Sanasuma Coastal Village Re-Awakening Project, the group has identified tsunami affected fishing families in Panama Pattuwa, and are committed to replacing essential tools for non-intrusive sea and lagoon fishing and monitoring the success of the fisheries.

The group will also establish local centers for the conservation of marine life. “It is so important to remember that tsunami aid is a long-term project,” said AQUA Heritage director Puma Hammer.

“The Sanasuma project will not only help restore the livelihoods of tsunami-affected families, but also protect Sri Lanka’s unique fishing traditions and precious marine life.”

The group plans many more events for the future. “There are so many bands from the US and Europe who want to come and help Sri Lanka,” said Hammer.
