Sri Lanka worst affected in South Asia
According to an initial assessment, small and medium industry and individual retail shops are the most affected from the tsunami disaster, Macky Hashim, President, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry told reporters last week.

He said that among the South Asian region, the worst affected is Sri Lanka with the devastation striking at the peak of the tourist season. Hashim suggested to the government that a reconstruction strategy should be planned by a high-powered private sector, public sector partnership to ensure transparency, accountability and high level of management skills.

He said all SAARC nations have shown willingness to support the cause of reconstruction in a big way. These countries have already pledged to support with material and funds, some are willing to support the building construction effort by sending large quantities of cement to Sri Lanka.
