Lankan stickers create history

The Sri Lanka men's hockey team created history when they clinched the Four Nation Invitation Hockey Tournament at the Delta Stadium in Singapore. This incidentally is the first that Sri Lanka has won a title in a major hockey tournament locally or abroad.

The other three teams which participated in this tournament were Macau, Taipei and hosts Singapore. The Sri Lanka hockey team led by T.M.P.P. Abeyratne remained unbeaten right throughout the short tour. Apart from winning the title Sri Lanka's M.M. Gazzali was named as the most outstanding player of the tournament.

In the run up to the title the Sri Lankan team beat Macau 6-2. Then they beat Taipei in the second match 3-2 and qualified to meet host Singapore in the final.
