University students bursary to be increased
The bursary provided for university students would be increased to Rs. 2050 from the earlier Rs. 1450. The bursary payment is now equal to the Mahapola payment of Rs. 2050 which was also increased recently. Both payment schemes come under the same regulations.

The increase in the bursary came into effect after the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) at a meeting held recently urged the Education Ministry to increase the amount paid earlier.

Education Ministry Secretary Tara de Mel had assured the IUSF of increasing the bursary, while the date of implementation is to be decided shortly.
