No
hand in specialist transfers, says GMOA
The Government Medical Officers Association has categorically denied
a report in a Sinhala daily that the GMOA has prepared the Consultant
Specialists annual transfer list for 2005.
The
GMOA states the offending press article has been published with
malicious intent to bring discredit to the GMOA and the Director
General of Health Services. They allege a Deputy Director General
of the Health Ministry and a consultant paediatrician at the Chilaw
hospital with the aid of this particular journalist has taken this
measure to harm their reputation.
Explaining
the background to the whole issue, Dr. Nimal Ratnasena, Vice President
of the GMOA and officer of the Consultant Transfer Board said their
only contribution to the Consultant Specialists transfer list (regarding
the 741 consultants in Sri Lanka) was to provide their observations
and suggestions. This was in a bid to provide an equitable service
to all grades of people in line with the national health policy.
A
survey done by the GMOA has found there are no ENT (ear, nose, throat)
specialists in Badulla, Anuradhapura and the whole of the North-East
Province. The survey also revealed there are no dermatologists in
6 provinces. Thus they brought forward the idea of distributing
consultant care according to the hospital hierarchy. |
