‘Underworld’ attack on silver screen
‘Underworld’, film directed by Sudesh Wasantha Peiris is now being screened at the ‘Ridma’ circuit cinemas including Asoka-Grandpass, Odeon- Mt. Lavinia, Mekhala in Gampaha and Chitra in Kalutara.

The film depicts the nefarious activities committed by the different underworld groups who are backed by different politicians. ‘Underworld’ revolves around a sister and brother - Imali and Suraj who have lost their parents. The two are very attached to each other. Imali a fun-loving girl is carrying on with Mahesh. Mahesh and Suraj join the police and are regarded as officers with grit and honesty. The duo is entrusted with the task of arresting underworld kingpins who are involved in drug trafficking and other nefarious activities which get political backing. They have become a menace to society.

After a series of bloody confrontations, a wanted leader is arrested but within hours he is released under political pressure. The gang leaders try to smuggle in a large quantity of drugs into a village which is being guarded by the police. They try to bring the drugs in a school bus which is not generally subjected to security checks. The underworld members also carry explosive devises in the bus so that it could be blasted if they were caught. The bus is full of innocent students on their way to school.

The cast in ‘Underworld’ includes Arjuna Kamalanath, Nilanthi Dias Karunaratne, Wasantha Kumarawila, Robin Fernando, Rex Kodippili, Cletus Mendis, Meril Asoka, Indika Fernando, Sapna Roshini and Dhammika Pushpakumara. The camera is handled by Lalith M. Thomas. Kumara Siri De Silva edited and Suneth Rasanga assisted in the direction.
