Deepal's
handsome victory at Golf
Prof.Deepal Weerasekera nearly new to Golf and the Ridgeways struck
a stunning nett 65 in the 'C' Division to not only win a position
but also register the best score for the day beating a strong sting
of contenders. Weerasekera beamed all afternoon and just after sunset
he had an open house at his residence for a harvest of well wishers
so reports Alwyn Ratnayake his great friend. Hoon Park came behind
with a very creditable nett 68.
Hamza
Impressive
Standing tall and broad chested Hamza Macan Markar was
quite impressive in the 'B' Division of the Royal Colombo Stroke
play competition just concluded. His one under par nett 70 was well
measured having smartly recovered from a few extravagant unrewarding
shots. His celebrations stretched from the GUVNOR'S to ZANZIBA at
Galle Face. Michael Dias, quite an elegant stroke player was beaten
by one stroke but he still carried on regardlessly and effectively
at the glorious 19th.
De
Saram Arrives
An absolute young strapper loaded with the De Saram tenacity
and the Sproule style and modesty. Savantha de Saram walked tall
through an enterprising round of nett 69 to win the 'A' Division
classic and sound warnings of the shape of things to come although
he is still on handicap nine. Mithun Perera, the chubby scratch
player struck 70 - an excellent performance. Arjun Fernando and
Bandula Weerasinghe were quite impressive with nett par rounds.
Arshad Ahamed was an almighty mess on gross 92.
Seniors
M.R. Thabrew was one over nett 7 to take the Seniors title
with a semi-permanent smile. W.H. Lee struck an excellent nett 68
to win the Master's comfortably to beat Michael Dias who was not
so masterly with nett 71.
Poolists
These guys flourish with every outing. Remarkably consistent
they shoot below par scores in monotonous regularly. N. Amarapathma
shot 67 & B.A. Rohana shot 69. My request continues - Please
give them more opportunities for competitive play.
Unrewarding
Rahula Seneviratne, Ajantha Mylvaganam, Amal Tudawe, Norman
Gunewardena and Shirley de Silva packed massive parcels of colourful
confetti after their rounds - ready for the marriage season. |
