Bloomfield on the prowl

Bloomfield were set for the kill as they were poised for an outright victory over CCC in a Premier League game at Maitland Crescent yesterday. After bowling out CCC for just 107 runs, Bloomfield hit up an imposing 457 all out. Continuing from their overnight score of 245 for 2 wickets the visitors lost Ian Daniel (96) and Kaushal Lokuarachchi (43) quickly. However Sri Lanka middle order batsman Tilakeratne Dilshan stood firm and compiled a fine 90 off 118 deliveries to help Bloomfield to get an invaluable 350 run first innings lead.

Batting for the second time CCC lost their first three wickets with only 6 runs on the scoreboard and later recovered to finish the day on 162 for 7 wickets thanks mainly to a 104 run 5th wicket partnership between Lanka de Silva (69) and Malintha Warnapura (46).

NCC in command
Half centuries from Upul Tharanga, Mahesh Perera and Russell Arnold helped NCC to an imposing 303/4 in their game against Chilaw Marians at Maitland Place.

Chasing Chilaw Marians' first innings total of 251, NCC were given a solid start by openers Upul Tharanga (89) and Mahesh Perera (56) who put on 116 runs for the first wicket. Tharanga had six boundaries in his knock while Perera struck 8 boundaries in his half century. Later Russell Arnold continued his good form with another unbeaten 63 that helped the host to take first innings points. Arnold added 67 runs for the 4th wicket with Naweed Nawaz (43) and an unbroken 48 runs for the 5th wicket with Hashan Tilakaratne (20 n.o.) to guide NCC to 303 for 4 wickets by the close.

Mohamed sends Colts packing
Off spinner Suraj Mohamed picked up five wickets as SSC sent Colts SC crashing to 100 all out at the end of the second days play at Maitland Place.

Facing SSC's first innings total of 296 the visitors were first rocked by the SSC medium pace bowlers Dilhara Fernando (3/38) and Nuwan Zoysa (2/26) after which Suraj Mohamed with 5 for 25 ran through the Colts batting line up to bowl them for 100.

SSC who are already assured of a place in the final round batted for the second time were 161 for 3 wickets with Mahela Jayawardene stroking a stylish 66 off 52 deliveries. Jayawardene who scored a hundred in his first innings was in spectacular form hitting eight boundaries and two sixes before he was unfortunately run out.

Tamils edge out BRC
Medium pacer Nandika Ranjith picked up five wickets as Tamil Union pulled off a close 12 run first innings win against BRC at the P Sara Stadium.
Chasing Tamil Unions first innings total of 289, BRC managed to reach 277 all out with Chamara Zoysa top scoring with 59.
