Bradby weekend was hectic in Kandy

It was a hectic weekend in Kandy. Almost at every home there were visitors from Colombo who had made their yearly trip to the hill capital just to be a part of the happening of the year - the Bradby.

As expected, the Royal seniors stamped their class once again when they followed their 41-6 win in Colombo with another 10-nil win to make it a historic 4-in-a-row.

However Royal could not hold sway in all age groups as the young lads of Trinity Collage won the Under 11 and 15 games. Royal took the under 13 while the under 17 game ended in a 10-all draw. However Trinity won the C.N. Simithriarachchi Trophy as they had a superior points tally of 33-10 in both legs.

Amidst loud cheers the first to take the field were the under 11 lads for their second leg clash. In this game the fleet-footed young Trinity outfit ran on to score two tries to Royal’s nothing to win the game by fourteen points to nil.

For Trinity Bimsara Ranatunge and Yakdesh Ratwatte out ran the opponents to score the two tries while Ratwatte added the extra points to both tries. Veteran Anil Jayasinghe refereed this game.

The under 13 game that followed went Royal’s way at 14-7. Here, Duminda Attygalle and Dhanushka Weerakkody scored two tries, which were converted by Mushin Faleel to give them fourteen points.

Akila Dissanayake scored Tinity’s solitary try with Sharon Armstrong converting it. Amila Gunasekera refereed the match. Not to be un-done by the previous defeat, Trinity came back to win the under 15 game by 10 points (2 tries) to no score.

Nigel Ratwatte and Sashan Jayaratne scored the two unconverted tries for Trinity. Gerald Rasiah refereed the match. Then came the under 17 match. Trinity won the first leg match by 23 points to nil in the first leg in Colombo.

This time Trinity in spite of playing in their own back yard could score only 10 points with the aid of a try and a penalty conversion while Royal were able to post two unconverted tries.

For Trinity Bhuddika Seneviratne scored a try which went unconverted. A while later Nishan Kirinde converted a penalty. Royal who played a much-improved game to the one in Colombo ran in to score their two tries through Manil Abeyratne and Jayashan Wijesinghe. Both Tries were not converted. Mahesh Gunaratne refereed this match.
