SL press self-regulation commended
Media leaders in the UK and Sweden have highly commended the introduction of self-regulation by Sri Lankan newspapers in keeping with modern international trends and the establishment of the Press Complaints of Sri Lanka, (PCCSL), in October last year, a PCCSL press release said.

They have pledged their fullest support and assistance to develop the PCCSL. These expressions were made by eminent international media personalities during an official visit to UK and Sweden by PCCSL's Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Manique Mendis and Complaints Officer, Ameen Hussain. The purpose of this visit was to study self-regulation of newspapers in these two countries and meet media leaders.

In the UK, the PCCSL representatives visited the Commonwealth Press Union (CPU), and met its Executive Director Ms. Lindsay Ross and other officials.
The CPU has been closely associated with the media in Sri Lanka over the last few years and played a major role in helping to set up the PCCSL, the release adds.
