Scribes face threats, flee from east
Several Batticaloa-based Tamil journalists have fled their homes following death threats to them by anonymous callers.
They have been threatened that any publicity or any links with the LTTE would result in death. The latest to flee was a freelance journalist working for several local media organisations.

The journalist, T.Vethanayagam, on Thursday night received a telephone call with the death threat because he had covered LTTE news briefings given by area leader Ramesh and the four women cadres who quit the Karuna faction and joined the Wanni LTTE.

Earlier two other journalists fled to Colombo following similar threats. Last month Veerakesari journalist G. Nadesan was shot dead on his way to his office in Batticaloa.
