Soldiers, PC injured in grenade attack
Three soldiers and a policeman were injured in a grenade attack in Batticaloa town yesterday morning, Police said. The incident took place in Puddur, two kilometres away from the airport when the Police and Army personnel were carrying out a foot-patrol in the area around 1.00 a.m.

Military spokesman Sumedha Perera said that there was possibility that the area had been infiltrated and the attack had been carried out. The incident came two days after Army and LTTE officials had held a discussion over a series of incidents which had taken place in the recent weeks. The two sides decided to meet every two weeks to monitor the security situation in the area.

The meeting took place after a series of killings of LTTE members for which Karuna's faction were blamed. The LTTE also blamed the Army for having a hand in these killings.
