Vesak in Canadian Parliament - a first
Vesak was commemorated in the Federal Parliament in Ottawa in Canada for the first time ever. The event was jointly hosted by the Hon. Maria Minna P.C, M.P, head of the Canada-Sri Lanka Parliamentary Friendship Group, Sri Lanka's High Commissioner Geetha de Silva, and the Sri Lankan expatriate community.

The Parliamentary Complex where the commemoration was held took on a typical Sri Lankan Vesak atmosphere with Buddhist flags and Vesak lanterns. The Buddhist clergy invoked blessings on those who were present by chanting seth pirith in Pali, from the scriptures.
