Army couple in unique feat
If the Guiness Book of Records had a chapter for such achievements in the armed forces, this couple would have sure found a place. Husband and wife, Brigadiers Basil and Mohanti Peiris serve in the Sri Lanka Army. He is Director Budget and Plans (in addition to Supply and Transport). She is Director (Legal). This unique distinction is unmatched in the armed forces.

And now, Basil has been promoted to the rank of a Major General. Does that mean Brigadier Mohanti would have to salute him at home too? asked a friend. Alia also joins others in saying congratulations.

Top Karuna men killed?
Intelligence sources say some of the top men from the LTTE Karuna faction - Jim Kelly, Thaatha and Rabert among them - have been executed. This was after the men surrendered and were taken to the Wanni for interrogation. However, there is no official confirmation about any action against them.

These sources believe several top level changes in the LTTE military leadership in Batticaloa-Amparai would be made by Wanni high command shortly.
