Big boost for club rugby

With the 2004 rugby season just begun. four major clubs Army, CR & FC, Police and Air Force have clinched a lucrative sponsorhip from Dialog GSM one of the pioneering mobile establishment in Sri Lanka. Under the sponsorship agreement Dialog GSM will sponsor and support all activities of the four rugby clubs this season. This was revealed by Nushad Perera, General Manager Sales and Marketing of Dialog GSM at a press briefing held at the JAIC Hilton on Wednesday.

The general manager stated that we are committed to nuturing sportsmen of the future today by encouraging, promoting and developing young talent at club level and giving them the required exposure to improve their skills in order to encourage and feed the national team. He further said that Dialog GSM is proud to come forward and play a signifcant role in uplifting sports in Sri Lanka to international standards. Our aim is to see that all sports at national level are supported adequately in reaching the desired level and we believe that these four sponsorships will help the four top clubs to strengthen themselves and perform outstandingly.

This is the third year in succession that the Army team is sponsored by us while CR & FC is being sponsored for the second successive year and the Ploice and Air Force are getting this offer for the first time by Dialog GSM. All four teams will be participating in this years League, Clifford Cup and the Premier Cup tournaments.

In the past Dialog GSM has been a prominent supporter of Sri Lanka sports. The company is closely associated with athletics where they were involved in a big way, school cricket, disabled sports, rowing, motor sports and sponsored national contingents to international events including the Olympics, Paralympics, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and SAF Games and we intend supporting more sporting events in the future Nushad concluded.
