Isipathana help themselves to second win in six days

Isipathana outclassed Dharmapala by an innngs and 27 runs to record their second outright win within six days and their third successive win. They started their winning campaign against the Thomians whom they defeated by innings and then followed up with a ten wicket win over St Aloysius Galle. The other outright wins were D.S. Senanayake College crushed Joseph Vaz by an innings and five runs, Revatha MMV Balapitiya beat Taxila Horana by seven wickets and St Mary's Kegalle overcoming Harischandra National School by five wickets which was their third outright win for the season.

Isipathana vs St Aloysius at Colts
In this game the Isipathanians after their morale boosting win against the Thomians put themselves on top on day one. It was the new find of the side Tharaka Waduge who laid the foundation with a five wicket haul helping them to dismiss St Aloysius for 99 and the Isipathanians ended the day on 185 for 9. On the second day the Isipathanians added another six runs to their score and the Aloysians batting the second time found Waduge unplayable again and folded up for 124. Waduge in this innings ended with figures of 5 for 44 giving him a match bag of 10 for 81. The Isipathanians had a simple target of 32 runs which they achieved with the minimum of fuss.

DSS vs Joseph Vaz Wijerama Mawatha
DSS coasted to an innings and five runs win over Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa in their match played at Wijerama Mawatha. It was a one sided game with the newcomers to the top division being unable to cope with experienced players. Joseph Vaz being asked to take first lease of the wicket had the going tough and were bundled out for 106 to which the home side ended the day on 155 for 9, at which score they declared on day two. The Wennappuwa boys batting the second time were left with only 49 runs to make DSS bat again but the home team bowlers acting skipper Dinesh de Silva and Madhawa Perera put them in all sorts of trouble and were bundled out for a meagre 44.

Revatha MMV vs Taxila at Balapitiya
With a seven wicket win over Taxila Central Horana, Revatha MMV registered their first outright win of the season. With a fine contribution of 94 from Sri Lankan youth player Saliya Saman the team from the South made an imposing 285 and then bowled out their opponents for 133. Made to follow on with a deficit of 162 runs. Taxila Central managed to avert an innings and made 198 which left Revatha MMV a victory target of 47 to win which they reached for the loss of three wickets.

Isipathana vs Dharmapala
Isipathana made short work out of the Dharmapalians with an innings and 27 runs win in the match played at Pannipitiya. This time the hero of the Isipathanians was opening bowler and right arm pacie Nilanchana Sankalpa who reaped a match bag of 10 for 81. Nilanchana with match figures of 5 for 37 had Dharmapala in a mess and bowled them out for 86. And the Isipathanians put themselves in a strong position by ending the first days play on 204 for 5. Resuming on the second day they were helped by a knock 53 from Isuru Vindana to score a formidable 276 for 9 declared. The Dharmapalians going into bat the second time were up against the wall on 80 for 5, being troubled again by Nilanchana Sankalpa. The visitors succembed to Sankapala's accurate bowling to end their innings on 163 failling short by 27 runs. Sankapala ended with figures of 5 for 44.

Harischandra NS vs St Mary's at Negombo
An allround performance by R. Madujith could not prevent Harischandra National School Negombo from losing their game against the high riding St Mary's Kegalle by five wickets. Harischandra NS batting first scored 202 to which the Marians replied with 288. The Negombo boys batting the second time were able to make only 161 which left the Marians to make 74 to win and they made 77 for 5. The notable performances for the Marians were K. Gunasekera who made 61 and Sri Lanka youth player Chaminda Bandara's match bag of 8 for 113.
