Parliament to debate Provincial Councils Bill
Parliament will debate the Provincial Councils Election (Amendment) Bill on Tuesday. The Bill has been referred to the Supreme Court as an Urgent Bill and the determination is expected to be announced by Speaker Joseph Michael Perera in Parliament on Tuesday.

The Bill seeks to have elections to all councils on a single day and makes provision for the elections to be conducted on a Saturday. The Bill also seeks to keep the number of members elected to the Councils at the same level as at present.

An adjournment debate on the termination of employment of workers is also scheduled for the same day.
