A fearless fashion statement
The pre-show buzz generated by Fearless Fashion certainly fulfilled expectations. An enthusiastic audience filled the Taj Samudra Ballroom on December 18. The show represented a first for Sri Lankan fashion connoisseurs in that it saw an eclectic mix of established designers and talented newcomers from private, government and international schools showcasing their designs.

A bevy of colourful models arrayed in a variety of designs in four categories including casual, workplace, evening wear and creative from the nine finalist young designers were choreographed by Brian Kerkovan. Ramzi Rahaman provided some stunning hairstyles and tasteful makeup, as the models gyrated to the applause of the crowd and the music.

Fearless Fashion kicked off with an elegant line-up from the popular upmarket store Dilly’s, followed by groundbreaking designs from Sonali White of the Haddai label, and further selections from well-known labels Kalyx, Limited Edition and Rebel.

An elite panel of judges comprising of Jalani Premadasa, Saskia Fernando, Koluu and Indu Dharmasena picked talented young Shakeela Samsudeen as Young Designer of the Year, gifting her among other things with a return ticket to Paris, the undisputed fashion capital of the world. The brainchild of Know Inc. led by Eraj Wijeyesekera, the show was co-ordinated by Emphasis and also hosted the launch of new menswear label, ‘The Know’.
