Questionable escape investigated
DIG Western Province K.P.P. Pathirana has called for an investigation into the incident where four suspects arrested by Mirihana police in connection with a driving licence forgery racket had escaped last Saturday after the alleged intervention by two Human Rights Commission representatives.

Panadura ASP U.A. Dharmasena who is conducting the investigations told The Sunday Times that he is probing the behaviour of the two female representatives of the HRC and policemen in charge of the suspects during the time of the incident.
Mirihana police said they were on the lookout for the four escapees who are still on the run.

The suspects had escaped while the HRC representatives were speaking to them. The suspects were allegedly taken to another room from the one the police were questioning them, despite strong protests from the police.
