Bowling to boost office morale

The Fingara Mercantile Bowling Championship organised for the first time by the Fingara Town and Country Club, Boralesgamuwa, an exclusive family recreational club, will be held from November 10-15 at the club premises. The competition is open to participants from the mercantile sector.

Manager Operations, Fingara Club, Athula Nanayakkara explained that a competition of this nature could help to build office morale and team spirit. He hopes to make this bowling championship an annual event, with the Fingara Trophy being 'the' trophy for bowling in the country. They plan to have at least 50 mercantile companies participating in this competition, with any number of teams allowed to represent the same company.

The registration fees per team will be Rs. 1,500, with each team consisting of three members, regardless of sex. The first round of the competition will be held at 6 p.m. on November 10 at the Fingara Club bowling alley. All 50 teams will be entitled to two full games to try and get the highest score on the board. Thereafter, 24 of the highest scoring teams will move on to the semi-final.

Then, the 24 semi-finalist teams will be divided according to a draw into two groups of 12 each to battle it out on a knock-out basis, taking the top four teams from both groups onto the final. The Fingara Championship Trophy will be a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 with the 1st Runners-up Trophy being a cash prize of Rs. 15,000.

The Fingara Club although being exclusively for members has now introduced a new corporate package and activity memberships for swimming, bowling and the gym.
Other facilities available at the club include badminton, squash, tennis, table tennis and other indoor games, indoor cricket nets, aerobics centre, karaoke bar, conference rooms, coffee shop, restaurant, kiddies’ play area, a sports library, pub and pool room.
