Relocate these Kandy schools

Kandy has just concluded another Esala pageant with the town bursting at its seams. The life of the citizens too was disrupted due to this large inflow of people.

A perennial problem in this town is the congestion due to traffic, parking of private vans and, of course, the daily school traffic, both vans and cars!

The past decade has seen the proliferation of international schools along Peradeniya Road and even in some residential areas.

The old, established schools too have doubled or trebled their intakes, adding to the problem. It is time the Minister for Regional Development, the Chief Minister and the Mayor of Kandy gave serious thought to schools, their contribution to this problem, their location or relocation and the development of future policy regarding permanent locations for schools.

It is, therefore, suggested that schools be encouraged to re-locate out of town. The old established schools too should be encouraged to re-locate their primary and secondary sections in the first instance.
