Chamber music and ‘Yoretime’ for Lionel Wendt celebrations

An evening of beautiful chamber music will be performed on August 27 at 7.00 p.m. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lionel Wendt Theatre.

Ananda Dabare, the well-known violinist, is the director of this string group, the Krassner Chamber Ensemble.

He formed this string group consisting mainly of his pupils, as a dedication to his one-time teacher and mentor, Douglas Ferdinands.

The programme will consist of works by Tchaikovsky, Borodin and the popular concerto for two violins and orchestra by Bach. The solo violinists are Dabare and Thushani Jayawardene. Another interesting feature will be the rendering of "Kol Nidrei" by Bruch, arranged for a group of cellists. The soloist is Tamara Holsinger.

The box plan is open at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.

Meanwhile The Merry An Singers will present "Yoretime" -the music of a number of composers who have moved us over these 50 years- on August 31 at 7 p.m.

Variety being the spice of life has sparked Mary Anne David to mix and match the harmonies of Romberg against Rossini, the rhythms of Gershwin with Gospel. The choir will tap Opera, touch Musicals and teenagers will effectively tackle counterpoint.

Musical accompaniment is by the proven trio - Electronic/Sound Engineer Neranjan de Silva, a wizard on the keyboards; Christopher Prins, a smiling magician on drums and Mary Anne David on piano. The Producer, Andrew and Director, Mary Anne of this group have consistently maintained that their productions though amateur strive for a professional finish. The concert is timed to finish by 8.15 p.m. to allow bus travellers easy passage and senior citizens an early night. Tickets are reasonably priced.
