' Mrs. Sri Lanka 2003' Mirani for Mrs. World

Mirani de Silva, Sri Lanka's nominee for Mrs. World contest left for Last Vegas in Nevada, U.S.A. last week. Mirani, our cover girl this week, was nominated by Mrs. Rosy Senanayake, the franchise holder for Mrs. World in Sri Lanka.
The event was first held on 1984 in Honolulu Hawaii and it was won by Mrs. Rosy Senanayake.

Mrs. Mirani was the runner up for Mrs. World in 1999. She is the mother of two daughters and a son.

She holds a degree in business administration and at present works as an executive in marketing and administration in a leading Airline. She is also the President-elect of the Lion's Club at Nugegoda Central, District 306 C.

She says that she is not a full time model and doesn't consider modelling as a career because of her family commitment. Whatever time she has, she spends with her children and her husband who encourages her in her public life. She has been sponsored by Optimum and Femme Fatale Fashions to participate for the Mrs. World Contest at Las Vegas.

The contest will be held in Las Vegas, USA from June 8 to 23.

Cocktail boys of Club Palm Bay
Jude Peiris of Club Palm Bay, Marawila (on left) became the winner of the "Marie Brizard" Negombo Regional Cocktail Competition which was held recently at Browns Beach Hotel in Negombo.

PJK Costa (on right) also from Club Palm Bay, Marawila won the fourth place of the competition. Having won the 1st and the fourth places of this competition respectively, they become eligible to take part in the "All Island Marie Brizard Barman of the year competition 2003" which will be held soon in Colombo.

Club Palm Baby won the first place at last year's main competition.


'Aussie Food and Wine Festival' at JAIC
The "Aussie Food and Wine Festival" will come alive at the Union Bar & Grill Room at Hilton JAIC from June 18 to 21.

Executive Chef Antony and his kitchen brigade are geared up to take on a culinary adventure to the land down under....... a celebration of the finest Aussie fare with a selection of premium wines to match. Enjoy some of the best Aussie tucker including premium steaks grilled to perfection, quality cheeses all the way from Australia and so much more.

A cheese specialist from the Australian Specialty Cheese Association, Andrew Gray and a freelance journalist from the Age Newspaper, Amanda Sutton, who played a major role in ensuring the success of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival, will be flown down for the promotion.

Chandi Hunter, a representative of the Victorian Government on a fact-finding mission to develop commerce and trade links between Australian and Sri Lankan producers for distribution, will also grace the occasion.


'Theli Thudin Asiriya': Oil painting show
"Theli Thudin Asiriya" on art exhibition by the adult students of Mrs Suneetha de Alwis will be held at the Lionel Wend Art Gallery from June 20 to 22.

The preview will be by the chief guest Mrs. Marie France Pegnier on June 20 at 6.30 p.m.

The exhibition will be opened for public on June 21 and 22 from 9.00 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.

These oil paintings are the creations by Uththara Ranathunga, Rohini Samarasinghe, Devika Rajaratna, Nalini Fernando, Bandu Nanayakkara, Sharmalee de Silva, Chandani Jayawardena, Nirasha Balasuriya, Dr. Sujatha Wijenayake, Nimali de Silva, Sakunthala Chandrasekeran, Anne Nicholas and Shiffaya Gaffoor.

These students are professionals and housewives, who enjoy their leisure time paintings.

All the paintings depict of Nature, Figure composition and still life and are all oils on canvas.

Wild Fire explosion at the PRH
'Wild Fire', a popular feature in recent times of Sri Lankan Music scene, once again came to life at the "Wild Fire with Raja Bojun Night" at Pegasus Hotel on May 24.

This night of dazzling entertainment was organized by Pegasus and Carlsberg and was indeed a hot favourite among the crowds.

This event took place in the hotels' spacious twin banquet halls, "Ruwanara" and "Shobana" and also featured guest DJ's from Music Asia Entertainments, who kept the crowd entertained all throughout the night.

Party revelers enjoyed good music, dancing and good company and was later treated to a scrumptious spread of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine prepared by professional chefs at the hotel.

Wild Fire will come alive again on June 28 at the same premises.


'Sri Lankan Super Stars in Action'
"Sohan and the X'periments" will be performing in Kandy after a lapse of five years, at the "Sri Lankan Super Stars in Action", a musical extravaganza on July 12 at Dharmaraja College Auditorium.

This gala musical show will feature Sohan and X'periments with Yasmin, Annesley Malawana, Indrani Perera, Anil Bhareti, Ronnie Leitch, Shanika Wanigasekera and Ginger.

The show is compered by Clifford Richard and the dance items will be provided by Channa Wijewardene's troupe.

The show is organised by Golden Key Credit Card Company.

"Golden Shepherdian Musical Fiesta"
"Golden Shepherdian Musical Fiesta" a musival extravaganza organised by the Past Pupils Association of Good Shepherd Balika Maha Vidyalaya in Nayakkanda, Wattala, will be held at the Elphinstone Theatre, Maradana on Sunday, June 15 at 7.00pm.

Actor Ravindra Randeniya and actress Nita Fernando will appear as the guest artistes along with other popular artistes at this show. The duo will be on stage for the first time together for a performance.

Dalreen Suby have come forward to cordinate and help the show on behalf of the school, which is a fund rouses for a much needed play ground.
