'CHIC' for Mother's Day
"CHIC", the special perfume: by Carolina Herrera will be launched in Sri Lanka on Monther's Day, May 11.

This Mother's Day, The Parfumerie gives a little nudge in the right direction. This would be an ideal gift idea for all the mothers.

Towards the end of the 19th century in the wolds of fashion and art, the word CHIC meant, "creating through imagination". Pure artistic skill. Now, Carolina Herrera has reinvented the ''chic" concept, as a creative spirit that allows the woman who possesses it, to highlight the natural beauty of all she touches, of all that surrounds her.

Today, to be truly CHIC is to live with imagination and originality. The CHICH woman does not aspire to a standard of taste, as no standard can define her.... she creates it.

She adores improvisation and embraces change. She is joyful, yet subtle, ingenious and intintive. Her style is versatile from the most classic to the most contemporary.

"The aroma is alive and complex, fresh and elegant" and CHIC is a fragrance overflowing with inspiration.

An original, evocative freshness and enduring sensuality. Creating notes of surprise and the nuances that are discovered over time.

The Top note is made of fresh petals for clarity and transparency. The Middle note is vivacious, fresh and floral. The Base note is white musk for its sensuality and warmth.

CHIC by Carolina Herrera is available at all outlets of The Parfumerie.

An island in an island
By Sanjeewani Seneviratne
Just 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Colombo City, is Ruskin Island, for the exclusive you who wants to have your dream life on an island.

Ruskin Island is only 10 minutes from Galle Road, when you turn off opposite the Keselwatte Police Station. It is surrounded by the Bolgoda lake , the largest natural lake in Sri Lanka. At the end of this short drive a jetty awaits you, which could even ferry your vehicle to the island.

This is a perfect hideaway for those who appreciate nature at its best. Bird lovers and water sports lovers will find it an ideal location for their dream holiday home.

One of the many highlights of the island however, is the Club House. The speciality here is that it will limit its membership to those living on the island only. Thus avoiding overcrowding resulting in pollution etc. and most importantly maintaining the privacy of the islanders. The club house gives a perfect setting for boating, water skiing and other water sports of your choice. The Yacht Club is also closely situated.

The 'Club House' is large with a lot of open space and its main feature is that there is a lot of timber used in its construction, giving it a homely warm touch. Even in the wash rooms, the table tops are of Kumbuk. A lot of Mahogony and Kumbuk is used throughout the lobby area for its furniture and other construction.
The dining room overlooks the lake giving you a scenic view while enjoying your meals. This is definitely a unique feature in Sri Lanka for I do not know of another. There is no air-conditioning and this allows you to enjoy the natural breeze and make you feel one with nature.

The Club House includes a swimming pool with changing rooms, poolside terrace, indoor badminton court, indoor squash court and well equipped Gymnasium. Plans include an outdoor tennis court, childrenís play area and first aid facilities. The membership entitles you to use all facilities of the Club, security services ferry service and all other facilities provided at the island.

'The island caters to a very special clientele, it is forty four acres all and the central area will remain as a nature reserve.

"We are also planning a jogging track. The 53 plots are not more than 40 perches each, costing Rs. 150,000 per perch" said Lakkana Abeyanayake, Deputy General Manager of Ceylinco International Realty (Pvt) Ltd. But the few blocks remaining overlooking the Maditiya Oya is is available for nature lovers only.

"Our idea is to make this a very exclusive island for those who appreciate and respect nature, and for those who want to preserve nature for generations to come" he said.

'The ferry service will operate on a 24 hours basis, and they are even willing to help ferry your building material once one starts to build. 'We have also arranged for the disposal of garbage on a regular basis.' added Mr. Abeyanayake. He also noted that all dwellers must agree with the conditions in the Agreement to safeguard nature.

The lake also offers you a few varieties of fish and also prawn. Fishing may even be done as a sport for your own kitchen.
