Aquinas golden jubilee walk
By Marisa de Silva
Aquinas College of Higher Studies, Colombo 8, established by the late Fr. Peter A. Pillai in 1954, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee. Many events have been drawn up and a new Jubilee Building put on the initiative of Fr. Crispin Leo, the Rector, was declared open by the Archbishop of Colombo on February 5.

The Jubilee Walk that took place last Sunday, March 16, starting from Aquinas College of Higher Studies was a great success.

A Dinner Dance will be held at a venue (yet to be confirmed) on October 19, the birthday of Fr. Peter A. Pillai the founder of Aquinas College. Aquinas will also be celebrating its 100th birth anniversary next year.

The purpose of this celebration is to build awareness of the programmes offered by the College to others so that more youth may benefit from these services and to bring the Alumni together to help develop their Alma Mater.

Well-wishers and Aquinas alumni are requested to lend a helping hand so that they can successfully conclude their golden jubilee year. For further information, contact Fr. Crispin Leo at Aquinas.

GNTC: Travel in comfort and safety
688688
Does this number ring a bell? Well, it certainly should, because it is the number of the GNTC call taxis! Just dial the number and yes, you can get the taxi to come wherever you want it to and then, yes you can go wherever you want!

GNTC started their cab service in 1993, with only 50 cars, aiming to provide a service, which would be safe, comfortable and affordable.

Mr. Shantha Illangamudali, the General Manager of GNTC says that when their cab service was launched, they provided excellent motor cars, all of which were fitted with taxi meters and VHS communication systems.

So how does this system work?. "Whenever you place a call to the 688688 number, the call goes through to our communication centre on Baseline Road. From there, the people at the call centre contact a taxi which is in proximity to the place from where the call came through, and the taxi will be at your doorstep in no time."

"At the moment, we have 145 vehicles in our taxi fleet," he continues. With a staff of around 300 people, GNTC is definitely the leading taxi service in Sri Lanka. But having achieved that status, has not stopped them from aiming higher. They have launched a new taxi service known as the Airport Limousine Taxi Service. GNTC will be the exclusive taxi providers for the airport from now on.

"This is the first time such a service has been done here," says the GM. "We give an assurance that with GNTC all the vehicles will be safe and comfortable, and we guarantee that passengers will get their money's worth."

Well, next time you need a taxi, you know what to do. Just call the number above, and before you know it, a GNTC cab will be at your doorstep!
