Biriyani Festival at Oberoi
The popular 'Biriyani Festival' will be held at the Indian Restaurant of the Lanka Oberoi till February 9.

A heavenly match of fragrant rice with various ingredients especially meats (of which lamb is a favourite). Through the years this exotic dish has evolved resulting in a myriad of mouthwatering variations which include Kashmiri Yakni Pullao (an aromatic combination of lamb, rice, almonds, walnuts and apricots with a variety of spices), Malabari Prawn Biriyani (spicy and flavourful prawn and boiled rice variation), Nizami Tharkari Biriyani (garden-fresh vegetables cooked with aromatic basmati rice) and many others ranging from vegetarian to seafood to meat based.

An endless array of authentic and aromatic Biriyani from all over India, along with just the right accompaniments and delicious desserts to compliment it all in the form of a sumptuous dinner buffet will be held at 7.00 p.m. daily. To add to the atmosphere a classical dance sequence traditional to India and popularized the world over will be performed during dinner.

Rosen Renaissance: renaissance in Kataragama

Rosen Renaissance Hotel fulfills the long felt need in the holy city of Kataragama.

The needs and the wants of the up market clientele , who visit Kataragama, is now addressed by the Rosen Renaissance Hotel .

Located at the foot hills of 'wedahiti kanda' and in close proximity to the Shrine in Kataragama, RRH is an ideal place to spend few days of religious worship followed by wildlife splendour.

"Actually when it comes to the high spending religious groups or corporate sector visitors, there was no place to accommodate their needs in Kataragama . They either have to go to Hambantota or Tangalle for their night accommodation. Then the idea of safaris and excursions are lost. With this in mind, we started this new project and today I am proud.that top personnel can now visit Kataragama and spend a few days with all the modern comforts." said Sagara Palihawadana, the Managing Director of the hotel and the Rosen International.

Rosen Renaissance Hotel is a 52 roomed luxury plus hotel with large bedrooms exceeding 400 sq.ft. including suites and family clusters. All rooms are self air-conditioned with remote control facility, TV (local and international channels and in-house movies), fully equipped mini bar, electronically operated safety lockers, bedside power console, telephone in room and bathroom with IDD facility, hot/cold running water (room with tubs available), room service are some of the facilities available at the hotel.

RRH is the only hotel in Sri Lanka, with under water music in the pool.

The power shaving mirrors in all rooms and a fully equipped gymnasium are some of the other attractions.

"We boast of one of the largest swimming pools in the region with ample space for fun and games and with a unique underwater music system, air conditioned restaurants, coffee shop, residents bar and a magnificent bar terrace for star-gazing and tall drinks are some of the unique features of this Hotel" Lal Dissanayake, the Residence Manager of the RRH explained.

World famous wildlife sanctuaries and nature parks - Yala, Bundala, Lunugamvehera, Handapanagala, Kirimetiyana and Udawalawe are some of the wildlife and birds sanctuaries within the reach after a couple of hours drive from the hotel.

"Exciting excursions through jungle to ancient tanks, bird watching and camping are possible. Hotel is arranging this type of outing on prior requests.' said Palitha Gurusinghe , the Marketing and Sales Manager of the hotel, who is based in the Colombo office.

A short journey through the Yala border on the Buttala road leads to 'Maligawila' where one of the greatest, and largest stone sculptured statues of Lord Buddha is preserved. This is believed to be the largest in Asia.

Magul Maha Viharaya in Lahugal, Muhudu Maha Viharaya in Pottuvil, Kudumbigala Aranya,, Maligawila , Sithulpawwa, Buduruwagala are some of the interesting religious places after a of few hours drive. " We are planning to arrange day trips to Arugam Bay, Wind Surfing in Arugam Bay, to Kumana and to Paanama. " Palitha said

RRH is also geared to hold conferences and seminars.

'Our conference facilities are geared to accommodate large number of guests with specially designed menus, parking and drivers' quarters are available.' Dissanayake said.

Careful planning has gone into selecting the right choice of food for those on pilgrimage.

"An "absolute vegetarian" cuisine with garden fresh vegetables and fruits are available on our 'All Day Dining' menu. " said Sagara Palihawadana.

'We are very careful with pilgrims. For those, who want to have other meals such as western and continental with different dishes, hotel is geared to cater to the needs" Lal Dissanayake said.
