Nature Photographer 2002

A leopard bathed in golden light, a magnificent tusker, tree frogs at their nest, the list of stunning images goes on. The winning and commended entries of the Nature Photographer 2001 Competition have recently been published in a 32-page, soft cover, full colour portfolio.

Adorning the front cover is Thushara Weerakkody's overall winning image of a Corrugated Frog. The image, which was praised for its artistic abstractness, was a departure from conventional nature photography. Thushara's unorthodox approach won him the overall first prize of Rs. 100,000 (just over USD 1,000).

The back cover of the portfolio is a landscape by Raeed Deen, who had a commended entry. Raeed, happened to be the youngest entrant, at the age of 11. His image was chosen by the designer, who was not even aware that the image was one entered in the Young Nature Photographer category.

The Nature Photographer Competition is on once again. Entry coupons now appear in the Daily Mirror.
