General languishes in the dark now

My Dear General,

I didn't think I would be writing to you under these circumstances but then, times have changed, haven't they? Anyway, I hope that they allow you your correspondence while you are with them. Of course there were those who were already questioning why you had not been arrested but now that you have been detained I am sure there will be those who will cry foul and say that this is all a political witch-hunt!

It must be a real change for you, General, from the glorious days when you went to Jaffna and hoisted the Lion Flag for all to see. Why, they even called you the "Sapumal Kumaraya" and your niece promoted you twice over! You were so taken up by those events that you returned and proudly declared that you would end the war and shake hands with Velu before the next Sinhala and Tamil New Year. We are still waiting for that New Year to dawn, General!

Then there was the time when you offered your resignation when the Dalada Maligawa was attacked but surprisingly some said that posters calling for the withdrawal of that resignation were pasted on the walls even before you had officially announced your offer to step down!

Then again, there was the time when you plunged the entire country into darkness and went away somewhere, leaving the country in the middle of an unprecedented power crisis. Even then, you proudly boasted that power cuts would be a thing of the past and that we would soon be exporting electricity to India! Of course, what is happening now is that we are importing generators from India to try to solve our power crisis. Of course, General, it appears that the ministry you held will always be a troublesome one because Karu is also now in trouble after promising to end the crisis in six months and no solution in sight after nearly two months!

Of course, General, many of us have forgotten all what you did and most would have let bygones be bygones and forgiven you for these little errors of commission and ommission.
