Battle of the Blues: Royal trail by 181 runs end of Day 1

Royal College were 11 for no loss in reply to S. Thomas’ College’s first innings total of 192 at stumps on first day of the 134th Battle of the Blues encounter at SSC today (7).
 
The match was forced for an early stoppage due to rain. 
 
Fast bowler Chamika Karunaratne picked a five wicket haul as S. Thomas’ College were bowled out for 192. 
 
Middle order batsman Devin Jayasinghe hit a resilient 74 to help S. Thomas’ bounce back after an early collapse as they gradually build up their innings total to a respectable 192 at innings break. 
 
Royal College won the toss and elected to field. 
 
Jayasinghe made his 74 off 107 balls with five boundaries and three sixes while Helakamal Nanayakkara and Ravindu Tillakaratne played anchor roles by contributing with 24 off 78 balls and 26 not out from 81 balls respectively. 
 
Speedster Karunaratne took five wickets for 55.
