South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 32 runs in their Group C match of the ICC T20 WC 2012 played at Sooriyawewa today (22).
After a rain relayed start, Sri Lanka elected to bowl and failed to chase the target of 79 set by South Africa eventually being restricted to 46-5 after the match was reduced to seven overs per side.
South Africa made use of the opportunity after being invited to bat, to post 78-4 with skipper AB de Villiers hammering 30 off 13 balls.
Hashim Amla (16), Faf du Plessis (13) and JP Duminy (12) batted aggressively to help South Africa reach a dominant total in the condensed game.
Nuwan Kulasekara, Thissara Perera, Rangana Herath and Lasith Malinga claimed a wicket each.
Sri Lanka changed their batting order with intentions of chasing the challenging target but apart from Dilshan Munaweera, who did not come in as the opener, and Kumar Sangakkara others failed to click.
Dale Steyn took two wickets while Jacques Kallis and Albie Morkel claimed a wicket each.
