The Colombo Chief Magistrate Court Lawyers Association today said they  would stand against the move  by the Law Association of Colombo which has proposed that provision be made to make appointments to the vacant posts in the Supreme Court and High Court from the ‘unofficial bar’.

This was  following a request made by the Law Association of Colombo to the president urging him to appoint members to the Supreme and High Courts from ‘Unofficial Bar’ members.

Senior Lawyer and member of the Colombo Chief Magistrate Court Lawyers Association Mr. Chandra Liyanarachchi said that there are procedures already in place when appointing persons to the Supreme and High Courts and interfering with such matters would not only deprive worthy lawyers of their posts but would also undermine and harm the countries Justice system as a whole.

The resolution is to be passed on the 22nd of this month.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate Court Lawyers Association said that they would stand against the resolution and ensure that is does not come to pass.
