There has been a sharp drop in Sri Lankans seeking a pilgrim passage to Tamil Nadu following the government’s travel advisory cautioning travel to that part of India, the industry said today. "We have had little or zero inquiries since the start of this week and we expect this particular sector to dry up in the coming days", Wasantha Silva with Sanasa Travels said. The recent attack on buses transporting Sri Lankan pilgrims from a Roman Catholic Church in Velankerni has only worsened the issue, he added. Other tour operators operating directly from Colombo to Buddhist site in the north of India said they were not affected since they skipped the Tamil Nadu state. "Most of our clients are taken to North India directly on Mihin Lanka and so an issue does not rise", Priyantha Adhikari with People’s Travel said.
