Campaigning for upcoming provincial council elections in North Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provinces will end by midnight today(05).
About 3.3 million persons will be eligible to vote at the elections on September 8 (Saturday).
Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya announced that all forms of election propaganda activities are prohibited by midnight on September 5 and that strict action will be taken against those violating election laws.
Any kind of meetings or propaganda rallies, demonstration, musical shows, displaying of posters is completely prohibited on September 6, 7 and 8.
On the polls day, Election Secretariat will deploy about 50,000 officers both for monitoring and counting.
According to Additional Commissioner of Elections, R.M.A.L.Ratnayake about 35,000 officers will be assigned for polling duty with about 15,000 for counting.
