Strong winds packing a speed of 50 kmph is currently being experienced in many parts of the country, an official with the Department of Meteorology said a short while ago. Duty Meteorologist Merril Mendis said that the wind speed was likely to increase to around 70kmph later in the day and that showers were also expected in several places. He said that thunder showers were expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in the districts of Kurunegala, Galle and Matara.
