Athletics: 5 new records set on second day of National Youth Sports Festival

Five new meet records were established on the second day of the 27th National Youth Sports Festival 2015 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama on Saturday (14).   The new five records brings the total number of records in athletics at this meet to seven and the most outstanding being the record established by K.K.L. Pramode from the Kalutara District lowering his own record he set last year in the 10000m Under-20 Boys event.   In the discus throw K.A.P. Jayawardene of Puttlam established a new record with a throw of 47.85m lowering the previous record held by V. Harikaran of Jaffna District’s distance of 44.00m.   In the Men’s Over-40 Javelin Throw R.M.S.J. Ranasinghe of Kegalle district entered his name in the records book throwing a distance of 74.84m beating the previous record held by D.S. Ranasinghe of Galle District (72.42m) in 2014.   S.A.D.K.L. Samarasinghe of Gampaha District set a new record in the 400m Men Over-20 event timing 48.67secs lowering the record held by W.S. Shanuka of Matara District (49.76secs) last year.   In the 100m Hurdles of Girls Under-20, B.S. Dulakshi from Gampaha District entered the records book with a time of 15.50secs bettering Gampaha District’s M.D. Priyadarshini’s record of 15.56secs established in 2011.   Gampaha District were leading the Overall Points Table with 87 points with Puttlam district with 75 points in the second place while Kurunegala District and Colombo District occupied third and fourth places with 68 and 53 points.   Other winners:   Long Jump Boys Under-20: K.K.M. Kumara (Puttlam) 6.98m   Shot Putt Girls Under-20: F. Shamima Rishad (Kalutara) 10.37m   High Jump Over-20 Women: W.D.T.H. Priyantha (Ratnapura) 1.50m   1500m Women Under-20: U.K.N. Ratnayake (Ratnapura) 4:35.65secs   110m Hurdles Under-20 Boys: R.S. Rinosam Lambert (Mannar) 15.02secs
