SL Finance Minister meets visiting IMF mission

Sri Lankan Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake met a visiting IMF delegation on Wednesday to discuss the country’s economic state and progress, ministry officials. The mission led by Todd Schneider discussed, among other matters, the country’s economic situation, the 2016 budgetary preparation and current issues of the 2015 interim budget including the Balance of Payments problem, at the Finance Ministry in Colombo. The same delegation was here in March for a ‘post-programme’ assessment. Sri Lanka is said to be considering a fresh IMF facility, a move encouraged by economists and private think-tank, to tackle the country’s precarious foreign debt position. (Bandula)
