President declares open Air-Force swimming pool complex

President Maithripala Sirisena declared open the Air-Force Swimming Pool Complex in Ratmalana yesterday, President Media Unit said. The new state-of-the-art facility is 50 metres in length and 25 metres in width with a depth of 5.2 metres at the far end and 1.4 metres at the other end. The pool comprises of 10 swimming lanes. The facility could also be utilized for a range of aquatic sports including competitive swimming, water polo, diving and lifesaving training. The entire construction was carried out under the purview of the Directorate of Civil Engineering of the Sri Lanka Air Force while obtaining the technical expertise from the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) and the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union. Chief Minister of North Central Province Peshala Jayaratne, Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Gagan Bulathsinhala, former Difence Secretary B. M. U. D. Basnayake, Additional Secretary to Difence Ministry S. Hettiarachchi, former Chairmen of Aquatic Sport senior SLAF officers and other ranks were also present at the occasion. air
