Thirty farmers have been selected to participate at a three-month certificate course in Farm Machinery Management at the Jaffna University, the Northern Governor's Office said.

An event had been organized to mark the introduction of this course at the Agriculture Faculty of the Jaffna University in Kilinochchi yesterday (Oct 9).

The course curriculum would incorporate the usage of farm machinery and would provide farmers the knowledge of operating and managing such equipment.

“Today is an important day not only for the university society and farmers but also the agriculture sector of the Northern Province,” Northern Governor Suren Raghavan said in his address broadcasted at the event.

The governor had predicted that a time would come when farmers would be questioned on their university in which they have pursued higher education.

Raghavan had emphasised that food security is of utmost importance and that it plays an important role in the sustenance of a society.
