CAA warns against fraudsters posing as officials

9 October 2019 - 76   - 0

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) says it has been informed of an individual who has been attempting to solicit bribes from traders by posing as a CAA official.

Issuing a statement, the CAA observed that the fraudster had sought bribes by promising to refrain from taking legal action against businesses.

However, the CAA emphasized that such legal action could be initiated by its investigating officers who would carry out raids only after identifying themselves using their identity card.

A receipt containing the telephone number and address of the CAA would be handed over to shop owners following raids, the statement added.

Accordingly, those having suspicion on any individual carrying out raids, can confirm the identity of such persons by contacting 0771088907 / 0771088914 / 0771088922 / 0771088921.

The CAA warned traders to refrain from giving such bribes and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
