Refunds for those who missed long distance trains during strike period

9 October 2019 - 38   - 0

Individuals who purchased tickets for long distance trains but could not make the journey due to the recent strike will be able to claim refunds from today (Oct 9), the Railways Department said.

The recent strike by railway trade unions had caused losses amounting to Rs 160 million, Railways General Manager Dilantha Fenrnando said.

He noted that foreigners and locals, whose scheduled journey had been interrupted due to the strike, could claim refunds by handing over their tickets to the counters at railway stations.

Railway unions began a strike on September 26, citing salary anomalies, before calling it off this week as the trade union action entered its 12th day.

President Maithripala Sirisena had said he would intervene and resolve their issues after the strike is called off.
