U-19 Cricket: SLC imposes 1-year suspended sentence on three youth cricketers

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) this week imposed a one-year suspended sentence on three Sri Lanka youth cricketers after they pleaded guilty for violating decorum after consuming alcohol.

The Board also banned them for one international game meaning that the trio, who were part of Sri Lanka U-19s Asia Cup team, will miss the next national youth assignment.

The three cricketers are Ashain Daniel (St. Joseph’s College), Kamil Mishara (Royal College) and Ahan Wickramasinghe (Royal College).

The incident took place on September 12 after the semi-final clash against India was abandoned.

After they misbehaved under the influence of liquor, the SLC met the three players with their parents and issued a strong warning against repeating such conduct and jeopardising their promising careers.

Ahan, a top order bat, was in fine form during the series, scoring 136 runs including a half century (73) in three games.

Opener Mishara returned scores of 55, 0 and 33. Daniel claimed three wickets and scored 23 runs in the tournament.
