More than 600 families of missing persons to receive compensation from November

20 September 2019 - 66   - 0

More than 600 families of missing persons will receive an interim monthly allowance of Rs 6000 from November until the Office of Reparations provides compensation, the Finance Ministry said.

Issuing a statement, the Ministry observed that the Office on Missing Persons, in its interim report last year had recommended granting compensation to the families of missing individuals who possess a Certificate of Absence.

A cabinet proposal to this effect had been approved recently after being put forward by the Finance and Social Progress Ministries.

According to the Finance Ministry, 656 Certificates of Absence have been issued to families including that of security personnel who went missing in action.

Cabinet approval has also been granted to recruit additional officers to the Registrar General’s Department on contract basis to expedite the issuance of Certificates of Absence.

Accordingly, the compensation would be deposited to the bank accounts of such families.
